    Registered dietitians are the food and nutrition experts who can translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living.

    Clinical dietitians educate patients about nutrition and administer medical nutrition therapy as part of the healthcare team.

    What are some reasons to refer your patients to a dietitian?
    Any patient with nutritional deficiencies, complications or problems might benefit from talking with a dietitian. This includes, but is not limited to, patients with the following issues:

    • Uncontrolled or newly diagnosed diabetes
    • Overweight and obesity
    • Underweight, failure to thrive, eating disorders
    • Cardiac diet education
    • Celiac disease or other food intolerances
    • Tube feeds or TPN
    • Cancer or other diseases compromising nutritional status

    How do you refer your patients to the dietitian?
    The dietitian works primarily by consult.

    • Any patient may call the dietician directly and the dietician can call the patients physician
    • Ask a physician for a referral
