What is a Hospitalist?
The team at St. Catherine Hospital includes doctors trained in hospital medicine. Because our doctors focus on patients who are hospitalized and are very familiar with the hospital environment, they provide personalized care tailored to your unique needs and are committed to providing you with quality care during your stay.
While you're hospitalized
Hospitalists partner with your primary care doctor as well as other medical specialists involved in your care during your hospital stay. They practice within the hospital and promptly follow up on diagnostic tests and adjust your treatment as necessary. They are on-site and easy to reach in case of an emergency and available to personally talk to you and your family about your care.
What happens on weekends and evenings?
A covering hospitalist is on duty seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
Who will talk to my family while I am in the hospital?
With your permission, your family will be contacted by a member of the hospitalist team. A hospitalist will always be available throughout the day to answer any questions you or your family may have.
When you're discharged
When you are discharged from the hospital, your primary care doctor will resume management of your medical care. We will notify your doctor's office and send a summary of your stay at the hospital to your doctor.
